KARNATAKA GRANTS LICENCES FOR 10 SUGAR FACTORIES
Article Abstract:
The Karnataka government has given licences for starting 10 sugar units in the co-operative sector with an estimated investment of Rs770 crore. The setting up of the new sugar units, in the northern parts of the state, envisages creating an additional crushing capacity of 45 lakh tonnes per annum. The government, while granting the licences, has stipulated that the units with a cogeneration component of 10-15 mw, should be established before the next crushing season. (khr)

KARNATAKA HIKES PDS SUGAR PRICES 60 PS
Article Abstract:
The state government of Karnataka has increased the price of sugar sold under Public Distribution System (PDS) by 60 paise per kilogram (kg) effective February 15, 1999. The sugar price has increased to Rs12 per kg from Rs11.40 per kg. The prices of rice and wheat sold under PDS was increased earlier. (rk)(m)
