KG Denim Ltd of Coimbatore has posted a 29 percent growth in its net sales to Rs143.60 crore in 1997-98. Sales of its Trigger brand jeans increased to 5.60 lakh pieces (2 lakh pieces in 1996- 97). Sales from garment division rose by 218 percent to Rs20.36 crore (Rs6.41 crore). Arvind Mills has earmarked an advertising budget of Rs8 crore to revive and reposition the Ruf and Tuf jeans brand. The brand range will now include gabardine trousers, shirts and accessories like school bags, caps and pouches. The company projects the Ruf and Tuf brand as a lifestyle built around Indian values. The range will continue to be sold through a network of 6,000 non- exclusive outlets. Sales of the Ruf and Tuf range recently crossed Rs7 crore per month. (khr)

MAXWELL TO VENTURE INTO DENIM MARKET

The Maxwell Group, manufacturers of the VIP range of undergarments, has decided to diversify into the Rs900 crore readymade denim trousers segment. It has decided to launch denim trousers under the Live-In brandname, which is to be priced at Rs550 per pair. It has also decided to launch a range of cotton T- shirts priced at Rs150-250.
