KIADB, NICEL TO SIGN LAND ACQUISITION PACT SHORTLY

Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises Ltd (Nicel) are to sign an agreement on October 12, 1998 pertaining to the acquisition of 21,000 acres of land for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project. The project envisages the construction of a four-lane highway between Bangalore and Mysore and the development of 5 townships along the corridor. The entire process of land acquisition is scheduled to be completed in 30 months and Nicel is to make its first deposit payment to KIADB for acquiring the land on October 12, 1998. (khr)

Srategic consequences of retail acquisition: IKEA and habitat
Article Abstract:
A study on the recent acquisition of the Habitat by the furniture retailer IKEA was conducted to help determine the resulting strategic acquisition. The acquisition of Habitat is logical since the two companies have many similarities in terms of customer focus, supply, chain distributors and mass market retailers. The combined firms can lead to operational synergy, improved efficiency and gain major international competitive opportunities since similar businesses skills and experience can be readily moved.

Downsizing after acquisition
Article Abstract:
Research has shown that the vast majority of acquisitions are followed by a period of downsizing, during which redundancies are common. However, this does not necessarily have to have a negative impact on staff morale. Downsizing have positive results as long as downsizing techniques are determined in advance, the staffing requirements of the organisation are properly assessed and staff are motivated fully during the downsizing process.
