Key to hospital security
Article Abstract:
There can be conflict between securiity and fire safety measures in complex buildings like hospitals. The design of the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, England illustrates the problem and its solution. Architect, Powell Moya Partnership designed the building with little regard for security and provided numerous external doors. However, security has become more important and a system of modular locks and pass codes has been introduced. Doors are suited to restrict access between departments with master keys held by engineering and cleaning staff.
