Kiwis order fifth SH-2
Article Abstract:
The government of New Zealand has given its approval for the procurement of a fifth SH-2G(NZ) Super Seasprite helicopter for the country's naval service. The approval followed a defense review that resulted in the cancellation of an earlier order for a fleet of F-16 fighter planes. The fifth helicopter, an option contained in the original contract, will be needed to simultaneously equip New Zealand's three operational seagoing flights while maintaining one for in phase maintenance and another for shore-based training.

Project Echidna cancelled
Article Abstract:
The Australian Dept of Defense has decided to formally cancel Project Air 5416, also known as Project Echidna, after failing to secure funding for the A$1-billion initiative. The project, established in 1998, was intended to deliver a number of electronic warfare self-protection for the Australian Navy's Sea King and the Army's Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters. The project had already progressed to the point of chosing four competitors before it was cancelled.
