Bright spot in Indian stocks?
Article Abstract:
The cement industry in India is booming despite a slowdown in construction and a sluggish economy, but the industry is plagued by rumors of an illegal price cartel. The Cement Manufacturers Association of India and Indian cement companies deny any price cartel, yet prices have risen sharply in a short amount of time. Analysts disagree on the future of the cement companies' stock prices.

Kodak hopes Indian camera rentals lift sales and spur picture-taking
Article Abstract:
Eastman Kodak Co has introduced the concept of camera rentals in the western Indian city of Pune, where customers can rent cameras at 50 rupees or $1.18 a week at 300 groceries, stationery shops, pharmacies and telephone offices. The deal, which also includes a 500-rupee security deposit, is sweetened by a roll of 36-exposure film. Kodak offers overnight film processing for another 300 rupees. Some 3,000 to 4,000 cameras monthly have been rented by Kodak since the promotion was launched in Oct 1998. By mid-1999, the promotion will include 200 more outlets in Pune and will be extended to 23 other cities throughout the country.
