Kremlin power struggles
Article Abstract:
President Yeltsin has vetoed the law covering the disposal of federally-owned shares in companies set up during privatisation, claiming that it is of a prohibitory nature, and could hamper the privatisation process. Also, a new offer for the trusteeship of state-run company shares has been received by the government, which would present more favourable terms for banks than a shares-for-loans deal.

Russia faces electoral conundrum
Article Abstract:
Privatization is a complicated issue in Russian politics, and many observers believe that Boris Yeltsin could make better use of the issue in his election campaign. There are mixed views on privatization, as many workers sold their shares due to financial problems or lack of information, and nobody stands to make substantial gains.
