Kvaerner close to decision on Millennium Tower substitute
Article Abstract:
Foster and Partners has submitted two very different designs to Kvaerner for consideration as a replacement for the original design for the London Millennium Tower, which attracted widespread criticism. Kvaerner must choose between a 114 mt-tall building, which it would require to be pre-let, and a 300 mt tower which would be a speculative project. Both designs would cost less than the 400 million pounds sterling which would have been required for the original design. The company will consult with organizations including English Heritage before going ahead.

Westminster council joins Millennium Tower critics
Article Abstract:
Westminster City Council has criticised Foster and Partner's plans for the London Millenium Tower as having an adverse impact on the skyline of London. The council believes that if the 435m building was approved it would set a dangerous precedent. The building is also opposed by the London Planning Advisory Committee, English Heritage and the Royal Fine Art Commission. The scheme could be called in for a public inquiry by environment secretary John Gummer, if it is approved.
