LCV MAKERS IN A TIGHT SPOT AS PURCHASE RATE CONTRACT EXPIRES
Article Abstract:
Failure of the Director General Supplies and Distribution to determine price contract rate for the government of India's commercial vehicle purchases has affected the light commercial vehicles (LCVs) producers. The rate contract for LCVs by government departments expired in August 1998. The LCV producers are awaiting new rate contract which is under consideration by the government. During the first five months of 1998-99, the LCV sales fell by 17 percent to 20,828 units (25,003 units during same period in 1997-98). (gs)
