Article Abstract:
Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL), a soap producer has adopted a youth approach for promoting its Liril brand of soap. It has relaunched the soap by changing the packaging as well as fragrance and has adopted a new advertising campaign for the new Liril which promises all new fragrance. The advertisement campaign includes the announcer and theme campaign and is aimed at the youth. HLL has also gone in for a 5-to-15 seconds channel specific ad spots and a Rs2 off scheme for promoting the product. It has already launched the channel specific creative ad campaign on MTV to attract the attention of the youth. HLL is trying to attract the teenagers to the product. In terms of volume, Liril accounted for 2.2 percent of total premium lime soap market during the first quarter of 1998, while in terms of value terms it accounted for 4.2 percent. (ag)

HLL SOAP UNIT FAILS POLLUTION TEST, CLOSED DOWN
Article Abstract:
The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) has ordered complete closure of the soap manufacturing unit of Hindustan Lever Limited (HLL) near Calcutta. The closure is due to the non- functioning of the unit's effluent treatment plant (ETP). Water samples collected from the ETP on four different occasions revealed that the ETP was not functioning. HLL's officials have been directed to submit a proposal to the Board for reducing the pollution level of the unit. The factory manufactures Surf and Pears brands of soap. (uh)

Procter & Gamble India Ltd (P&G) is now revising its dealer margins to boost the sales of its products. It had reduced the dealer margins on some products. The dealers had warned that they would not sell these products in Mumbai from January 1, 1999. Procter & Gamble India Ltd is to supply stocks to the dealers more frequently to reduce the inventory.
