LVMH revenue grew 16% in first half raised by champagne, perfume sales

LVMH Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton SA posted strong growth in revenues for the first half of 1999. The French luxury group posted a 16% rise in revenues to 3.59 billion euros for the six-month period to June 30. The group's figures were helped by an increase in sales of champagne, as well as by the economic recovery of the Asian region. LVMH forecasted that its operating profit for 1999 will improve by 15%.

LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA reported a decline in its 1998 net profits of 29%. The drop in profits was primarily attributed to the weak market in the Asian region. LVMH's net profits dropped to 525 million euros ($577.2 million), compared to 742 million euros in 1997. The company posted a 6.7% drop in profits to 1.18 million euros over 1997's 1.27 billion euros.
