Parting companies
Article Abstract:
Badly managed downsizing can hurt companies because it tends to breed resentment in both the employees who are leaving and those staying behind. Firms can ensure the workforce reductions will go smoothly by engaging the services of outplacement consultants. Outplacement aims to help displaced workers find other employment typically through counselling, career assessment, enhancement of job search skills, and the provision of support services and job information. Not only does outplacement benefit outgoing employees, it also offers several advantages to employers. It demonstrates that the company is responsible, preserves the good relationship between employer and former employees who may later go on to influential positions, and keeps the morale of the remaining employees from being damaged.
