Land-locked: foreign firms in Japan
Article Abstract:
Japan has only $180 in foreign investment per person, compared to $1,600 in the US. The Wednesday Group, a congressional committee, argues that the imbalance is a main cause for the US trade surplus and they plan to encourage Japan to remove its barriers to direct investment.

Japan ties up the Asian market
Article Abstract:
Japan is investing heavily in other East Asian economies, hoping to take advantage of their rapid growth as well as their expanding consumer base and low wage workers. Japan can do this without the need of commercial treaties, unlike Europe and North America.
