Largest practices make hay
Article Abstract:
A survey of architectural practices in the UK found the median fee earnings for practices of 31 or more architects was 4,540,000 pounds sterling compared to practices of 11-30 architects with median fees of 1,208,000 pound sterling. The majority of the fees came from designing buildings whilst planning consultancy work accounted for 10% of the income. Total fees for 1998 amounted to 1.7 billion pounds sterling. Larger practices of over 11 architects accounted for 64% share of the market in 1998. The survey was carried out in Feb 1999 and included 400 architectural practices.

Kingston 'hotel' adapts to a patient-focused design
Article Abstract:
Kingston Hospital, in Surrey, England, is refurbishing its surgical block as part of a move towards patient-focused care. Other developments are the new patient hotel which increases the quality of patient time in hospital while cutting costs by reducing the length of patient stay. Many services such as cardiography, X-ray and pharmacy are now available on the ward.
