Lockheed tests radar market

Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems has received its first commercial contract for a new version of its mobile military air traffic control unit. The product, called Sky Tracker, is a fixed site airport terminal surveillance radar that has been chosen for installation in Colombia. The company will build three terminal airport surveillance radars and provide a fourth secondary surveillance radar. The contract, worth $15 million, provides for radar installation at the airport in Leticia in southern Columbia.

Northrop Grumman Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector (ES3) has secured a $20 million contract from the Federal Aviation Administration to develop a new weather radar detection capability. Under the terms of the contract. ES3 will provide 33 production systems of its proposed weather detection product, starting late 2000. Installation of the weather-system processor will be made at ASR-9 sites that historically experience windshear and microburst activity, but do not have other detection systems installed.
