League tables: ninth annual privatisation league tables
Article Abstract:
Credit Suisse First Boston of BZW completed deals worth $28 billion, in 1997. Privatisation of telecommunications companies occurred in 13 different countries. The number of deals in Latin America grew from 90, in 1996, to 125, in 1997. The Asian market remains busy despite the economic crisis in the region. Further privatizations are anticipated as governments' sell their assets to recoup funds. It is predicted privatisation deals in Eastern Europe are likely to increase particularly as economic reform will lead to several state companies being privatised.
