Chuan asks voters to judge his achievements and goals
Article Abstract:
Thai Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai is banking on his administration's major accomplishments to carry it to another term after the Jul. 2, 1995 general elections. The Chuan administration has been credited with establishing an economic policy that promises steady economic growth. However, analysts believe that Chuan's chief rival Banharn Archa Silpa-Archa of the Chart Thai Party could gain as much as 100 of the 391 seats in the lower house. These forecasts could significantly hamper the Chuan administration's latest projects but is not expected to permanently derail Thailand's economic growth.

Thai politics lag behind nation's success
Article Abstract:
Critics are blaming Thailand's weak economy to its poor political structure. Much of the blame is placed on Prime Minister Banharn Silpaarcha who is believed to be engaging in unscrupulous activities. His predecessor, Vijit Supinit, was also involved in scandals which eventually forced him to resign. The growing corruption within the Thai government have led people to believe that Thai politics have taken a turn for the worse. Analysts, however, say the problem is not that Thai politics have changed but rather, it has lagged behind the changes in the nation's economy.

The business sector appears happy about the development as it gives voters the chance to elect a more popular government.
