Learning from Lawrence
Article Abstract:
A report on the death of Stephen Lawrence in London, England, in 1993, shows that institutionalized racism is a problem in the UK. The police bungled the murder investigation, and there are problems of poor management and discipline and lack of accountability with the British police. Prejudice against black and Asian Britons means that they may lack confidence in the judicial system. Independent investigators should be used in inquiries into police behavior, and there should be more black policemen.
