Legend, IBM strike a deal

Legend Holdings Ltd., a China-based maker of personal computers and computer products, has reached an agreement with International Business Machines (IBM) to jointly develop and distribute software in China. The agreement requires that Legend will distribute IBM's software in mainland China and further develop the software to fit local requirements of various government agencies, as well as for finance, health, telecommunications, aviation and public-security firms. IBM, on the other hand, will furnish technical support on product development and software program management. Legend and IBM will initially work in developing and distributing tax software.

Investment poised to grow
Article Abstract:
Venture capital investments from Taiwanese groups are positioned to increase over the years in China as Taiwan firms take advantage of the software talent of the Chinese, said WI Harper Chairman Peter Lui. The venture capital industry in Taiwan has improved immensely as it more than doubled to 97 in March 1998 from 47 in December 1996, according to the Taipei Venture Capital Association. Taiwan has been successful in hardware manufacturing and it would expectedly be propelled to tap the resources of China to improve its industry.
