Li, opening National People's Congress, says government error roused inflation
Article Abstract:
Observers were surprised recently when Chinese Premier Li Peng attributed the country's problems with inflation to government mistakes. Such candor is extremely rare in a government which has consistently shifted blame away from itself in past issues. In his speech before the National People's Congress, Li stated that the government would make a vigorous effort to stop inflation, increase emphasis on agriculture and continue with the reform of state enterprises.
