Life in Leeds

Refugees from Kosovo, Yugoslavia, are staying in a reception center in Leeds, England. They can use local schools and learn English, and some of the younger refugees are traveling to see friends elsewhere in the United Kingdom. There are 3,119 Kosovar refugees in 21 centers in the UK, mainly in northern England, where there is more spare housing. Priority was given to refugees with medical problems, and the aged, when the refugees were selected, and they cannot choose where to be sent in the UK, though they can travel after their arrival. They would prefer to return to Kosovo as soon as possible, rather than establish roots in the UK through schooling and the like.

Fighting the class war
Article Abstract:
Some social commentators believe class distinction in Great Britain is lessening, and the profiles of members of the Tory and Labor parties lend some credence to this thought. However, many voters believe that the class differences are increasing, thus disputing the analysis.

Fears about E. coli and other food-borne illnesses have influenced many people in the UK to take up organic gardening. Some are followers of the late TV host Geoff Hamilton, others take classes at Ryton Gardens or the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.
