Life in the fast lane: though more of a trunk road than an information superhighway, the Internet is increasingly important. Setting up a site is simple
Article Abstract:
The Internet is not yet a truly interactive communication medium although the technology is used by many for inter office communication. The Internet infrastructure is well established and fairly stable and users are able to establish their own site for relatively small cost. Some software developers are building Internet access into their programs. The language used to describe Internet pages, HTML, can be learnt through a word processing program and software is often produced to assist page creation.

Walk like a man...
Article Abstract:
Version 3.0 of MetaCreations' Poser is a very powerful and cost-effective character creation tool. Users can rapidly create both still and animated characters based on a set of figure templates. The interface is very user-friendly, and work is undertaken in a single window in which the character appears. There is a high level of functionality, and figures can be worked on as stick figures, models or skeletons. Both hands and faces are fully articulated.

Knowing your place: integrating data from global information systems via the internet with CAD software will add certainty to architects' plans
Article Abstract:
Geographical information systems have been in development for several years and are likely to impact all areas of the construction industry. Such systems are not yet widely used by architects, but they could provide advantages such as access to planning and statutory authority data. AutoDesk is a market-leader in GIS and is planning an upgrade to MapGuide which is developed around internet technologies.
