Gateways to Web poke holes in the country's fire wall; two sites illustrate how Internet is emerging as independent force in rigidly controlled society
Article Abstract:
The Internet has become an independent communication system which penetrates through the barriers erected by the government in China. A startling example of the World Wide Web's significance in Chinese society is the access made by Chinese who are hooked to the Web to the news of the apologies made by the US and NATO regarding the accidental bombing of the Chinese embassy in Yugoslavia.
