The American banking industry is going to have to cope with hundreds of new regulations from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation Improvement Act of 1991. Congressional attempts to take the risk out of banking has created regulations that threaten to strangle the industry.

The hidden cost of red tape

US voters need to engage in public debate over the issue of the costs and benefits of regulation. In most cases, it is less expensive for the government to regulation than to implement policies itself. A new Republican proposal is discussed.
