The Southampton office of mergers and acquisitions adviser Price Waterhouse Cooper (PwC) mainly deals with transactions priced at over 10 million pounds sterling, providing clients with a dedicated service. PwC raised 620 million pounds sterling for a transaction involving the purchase of UniPoly by a management buyout team in October 1997. The licensing rights to the Thomas the Tank Engine were bought by the Britt Allcroft Company for 7 million pounds sterling in May 1998, with PwC providing financial advice.

The acquisition finance market in continental Europe focuses on a partnership approach to provide lenders with local expertise. The acquisition finance team is ideally made up of local people who know the companies involved in the transaction and understand local cultures, markets and laws. The European acquisition finance market is led by the U.K., with some 540 transactions finalised in 1995, valued at about 5 billion pounds sterling.
