South Korea's Cheil makes splashy move into Hollywood as Dream Works investor
Article Abstract:
Cheil Foods and Chemicals Inc. (Cheil) will acquire an 11% interest in Dream Works SKG for $300 million, marking the South Korean pharmaceutical company's entry into US multimedia production. Cheil owner and Managing Dir. Lee Jai Hyon expressed optimism over the agreement which was the second largest outside equity investment in Dream Works. Many analysts questioned Cheil's decision to invest in Dream Works particularly because the South Korean company's earnings for 1994 were below expectations.

Dispute over islets illustrates the depth of mistrust between South Korea, Japan
Article Abstract:
The dispute between Japan and South Korea over an atoll situated in the middle of the Sea of Japan has revealed animosity between the two countries. This mutual feeling of hatred dates back to the time when Japan invaded Korea during the 16th century. It was reopened when Korea constructed a wharf on one of the islets, sparking protests from the Japanese government. The United States has refused to intervene in the dispute.
