Lonrho's fiscal-year results get a lift from platinum division
Article Abstract:
Lonrho PLC announced that its platinum division's strong performance helped the firm to compensate for lower profits in its gold and coal businesses for the year ending on September 30, 1998. However, Lonrho said that additional restructuring may be needed if financial markets continue to show apathy toward its stock. The company claims that its earnings growth and the value of its mining assets are not properly reflected by its stock price. Lonrho posted 84 million pound sterling ($139.1 million)for the year. Analysts had predicted earnings of approximately 99.5 million pound sterling.
