Loosening central control: Latin America is painting a private airport landscape
Article Abstract:
Latin American airports have been rapidly privatizing as a result of the highly-ppublicised privatization of 33 of Argentina's biggest airports in Feb 1998. Mexico has finished the part-privatization program of its airports early in 2000, with the exception of airports located in Mexico City. The biggest event of 2000 is the awaited privatization of Infraero, the Brazilian government agency responsible for 76 air navigation facilities and 67 airports and the Alcantara space center.

Latin America goes private
Article Abstract:

Government and local authorities are increasingly being limited in providing similar support due to more pressing public finance demands. The region's economic stability has allowed several countries to pursue airport building projects, including Argentina, Mexico and Panama.
