Losing the plot
Article Abstract:
The service offered by United Kingdom railroads deteriorated in 1997, though there was an initial improvement following privatization. Commuter lines to and from London have been among those lines with poor service. There have also been problems with the passenger inquiry service, and fines were imposed by the regulator. There have been disputes between train operating companies and Railtrack, which manages the railroad infrastructure. Privatization has brought some benefits such as a reduction in grants and subsidies.
