Loss of patience
Article Abstract:
US Pres George Bush announced onJun 2, 1992 his intention to renew China's most favored nation (MFN) trading status for one more year without conditions. However, the US Congress wants to attach conditions to the MFN renewal to force China into acting on issues such as trade practices, arms control and human rights. With Democratic legislators impatient over China's response to focused pressure on these issues, Bush's policy on MFN for China without conditions may have lesser congressional support. Democrats have been previously supportive of unconditional MFN for China.
