Lufhansa seeks British Midland stake

British Midland and Lufthansa stated that they are in exclusive negotiations that could lead to Lufthansa acquiring a 20% share of British Midland. The carriers agreed that the acquisition, if it takes place, would be a way for the British airline to gain entry into the Star alliance. The alliance is comprised of Lufthansa, UAL Corp.'s United Airlines, and SAS, which has a 40% share of British Midland.

Lufthansa's bid for Swiss may mimic KLM deal
