Lycos results top forecasts on rise in Web traffic

Lycos Inc. posted earnings that were higher-than-expected for the fourth-quarter ending on July 31, 1999. The company benefited from improved Web site traffic. Lycos also announced that it was engaged in negotiations with its partners overseas to sell stock to the public in one or more of its global businesses. The company posted a $21.4 million (20.4 million euros) loss for the fourth-quarter.

J & J net rises on device, drug sales

Johnson & Johnson of the United States posted a 2nd quarter profit increase by nine percent to $2.82 billion from $2.59 billion last year. Revenues were boosted by sales of medical equipment, psychotropics and rheumatoid arthritis medication. Sales increased 4.7 percent to $13.36 billion from $12.76 billion last year.
