ICL's TURNOVER UP 11%; PAT DOWN 29%

India Cements Ltd has increased its turnover by 11.39 percent to Rs927.31 crore in 1997-98 against Rs832.50 crore in 1996-97. Its net profit has decreased to Rs58.26 crore from Rs82.58 crore due to higher depreciation and interest charges. Its interest cost increased to Rs83.77 crore from Rs47.40 crore while depreciation increased to Rs50.24 crore from Rs44.07 crore. Other income increased to Rs22 crore from Rs16 crore while reserves increased to Rs422.91 crore from Rs402.25 crore. The company gave an earnings per share of Rs9.05 for 1997-98 against Rs12.83 in 1996- 97. The company plans to maintain a 30 percent dividend for 1997- 98. (khr)

India Cements Ltd (ICL), a cement producer has posted a six percent rise in its sales during April-September 1998. During the period, it also posted a fall in the net profit to Rs25.67 crore (Rs47.08 crore during April-September 1997). The investment on cement capacity additions have been attributed to the fall in the net profit. (ag)
