MARGINAL RISE FOR ESSEL PACKAGING

Essel Packaging has posted a net profit of Rs11.65 crore in the first half of 1998-99 against Rs11.48 crore in the first half of 1997-98. Its net sales has increased by 11 percent to Rs76 crore from Rs69 crore while pre-tax profit has increased to Rs15.65 crore from Rs14.48 crore. The company has announced an interim dividend of 20 percent for 1998-99. It plans to issue warrants, not exceeding 5 percent of the paid up capital, to employees under a stock option scheme. (khr)

Essel Packaging of the Subhash Goel group has almost an 80 percent share of the market in laminated tubes. It posted a net profit of Rs26 crore on a turnover of Rs179.91 crore in 1997-98 against a net profit of Rs20.30 crore on a turnover of Rs152.68 crore in 1996-97. The company has expanded its operations by setting up ventures in China and other places. It does not have any other major competitors in India. (khr)

Essel Packaging Ltd recorded 11.36 percent growth in its net profit at Rs6.37 crore in the third quarter ended December 31, 1998. Its sales were Rs39.87 crore (Rs38.97 crore in the same period of 1997-98). It made a net profit of Rs15.12 crore on sales of Rs116.17 crore in the 9 months ended December 31, 1998.
