MORE PLAYERS LIKELY TO ENTER LNG PROJECTS IN GUJARAT
Article Abstract:
The Gujarat state government had selected the Hazira port for liquefied natural gas (LNG) transportation business. It had shortlisted Reliance-Elf, Essar-Shell and Mobil for final approval to set up a port to handle 5 million tonnes of LNG. Now, the Pipavav and Dahej ports are also entering the fray for setting up LNG terminals. Gujarat Pipavav LNG Company, a joint venture with British Gas, plans to set up a terminal for handling 5 million tonnes of LNG by the year 2000. Petronet LNG plans to build a facility of 5 million tonnes and a floatation LNG jetty of 2.5 million tonnes. Natalco, which has bagged a port project at Maroli, also plans to set up a 2.5 million tonnes LNG facility. (rk)

HLL TO EXIT FROM TWO EXPORT PROJECTS IN TN
Article Abstract:
Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) has decided to exit from two of its unviable export related projects in Tamil Nadu. HLL had planned to set up a catfish project in Thanjavur and wool-on-leather project at Marungar. The company has exited from the catfish project due to problems in replicating catfish aquaculture. Hll intends to dispose the wool-on-leather plant. The wool-on-leather project is unlikely to be set up due to the financial difficulties of the original buy-back collaborator. (gsh)

GAIL TO MAKE FORAY INTO POWER PROJECTS
Article Abstract:
The Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) plans to promote 2 power projects in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. The 400 mw power project in Delhi is in alliance with BSES. GAIL and BSES are likely to hold 26 percent equity stake each in the project. The second power project is to be set up in alliance with STI Tubes of Guna in Madhya Pradesh. GAIL plans to diversify and consolidate itself as an energy company. It is likely to invest Rs5,000 crore in infrastructure projects. (rk)
