MacLean runs new PJ DDB division

Palmer Jarvis DDV has announced the appointment of Robert MacLean as vp, corporate communications and public relations. MacLean will head PJ DDB's in-house public relations department that will handle the agency's communications requirements and also those of its clients. MacLean was a senior consultant of PR firm BenchMark Porter Novelli. PJ DDB pres and CEO Frank Palmer said his agency has grown to a size which necessitated a senior public relations expert to provide advice to their clients and to help in their internal media relations.

Cossette Communication-Marketing has earned the right to be called the largest advertising agency in Canada through its slow and steady style of management. A classic example is the way it did with Bell Canada whose first contract with Cossette was a modest $10 million advertising account. This has turned into a $60-million account when Bell Canada added its Bell Mobility and Bell Quebec accounts to tis Ontario business.

Ad spending stayed robust in '98
Article Abstract:
Advertising expenditures increased 8.1% to C$9.5 billion in 1998, according to the Television Bureau of Canada and the Radio Marketing Bureau. It was the second straight year of hefty growth, with 1997 ad spending increasing by 8.6%. Internet was the most explosive medium, attracting C$25 million worth of ads in 1998, an increase of 150% over the previous year.
