Maintenance management decision making

Article Abstract:

The importance of creating an environment conducive for decision-making in industrial equipment maintenance management is addressed. These include system design aspects, management policy and objectives and personnel management. Quantitative models and Decision Support Systems are found to contribute significantly to the move to improve maintenance management in industries. A workable framework for further research on methods is provided.

Multiple period repair kit problem with a job completion criterion: a case study

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to solve the multiple period repair kit problem with a job completion criterion using a knapsack heuristic. The objective was to minimize holding costs while attaining the minimum job completion rate. Data on the service-after-sales department of the Belgian division of a multinational company shows that part-type failures are stochastically independent and at most one part of each type is used in a particular task.

Integrating optimisation, priority setting, planning and combining of maintenance activities

Article Abstract:

The theory of maintenance optimization is discussed. The method adopted combines optimization with other activities such as priority setting and planning to derive a unified and more thorough result. The framework used for analysis limits activities to those that can be predetermined. Such a framework likewise uses a continuous time setting and allows the derivation of penalty functions which are capable of deciding priority.
