Maintenance optimization of a production system with buffer capacity
Article Abstract:
An optimal preventive maintenance strategy for a production system where downtimes are very expensive is developed. Such a system consists of an 'input generator' and a buffer for unexpected process failures. To this end, a group of control limit policies are evaluated according to the embedding concept of Markov decision theory. This led to the development of a maintenance policy based on the age of the 'input generator' and the contents of the buffer.
