Island partners set sights on Chunghwa Telecom

Taiwan Cellular Corp. and Taiwan Fixed Network Co. are starting several joint ventures under the name Taiwan Telecom Group and may eventually merge to surpass the former monopoly of Chunghwa Telecom Co. Joint venture projects include engineering and billing services as well as overseas investments.

Manadarin's phone network gets publicity boost from banned ads

Mandarin Communications' marketing campaign was given an added boost with Mass Transit Railway Corp's decision to ban the ads from its subway system. Mass Transit Railway, administrator of Hong Kong's subway system, decided to ban the ads on grounds of being too suggestive and indecent. Mandarin Communications marketing director maintains that the company really aims to create controversy and that the next series of ads would be toned down somewhat so as to avoid offending anyone.
