M&M'S VOYAGER SKIDS, TO BE REPOSITIONED IN TRAVEL SEGMENT
Article Abstract:
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has shifted its multi-purpose van from the personal transport to the travel segment. Sales of the Voyager have been falling in the past 6 months. Only 1,500 Voyager vans have been sold since its launch in December 1997. Mahindra & Mahindra has reduced the production of Voyager to 80- 100 per mensem from its targeted manufacture of 220 vans a month. The Voyager costs Rs5.26 lakh for the standard version and Rs5.56 lakh for the deluxe version. This high price has hit the sales of the Voyager. It plans to reduce the cost of the van by buying dies from Samcor of South Africa and produce the panels itself. Mahindra & Mahindra imports panels as knocked-down kits and assembles them at its plant in Zaheerabad. It plans to increase the indigenisation of the Voyager from 70 percent to 90 percent to reduce the cost of the vehicle. (rk) (kvr)
