Manila's water shortage sparks flood of proposals
Article Abstract:
The water crisis in Manila, Philippines, has stimulated several domestic and international firms to come with proposals to alleviate the problem. Firms such as Count Southern Water PLC, Alarko Co. and Mabuhay Holdings Corp. are proposing new water treatment facilities under build-operate-transfer schemes. Meanwhile, the state-owned Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewage System (MWSS) is launching a campaign aimed at reducing the amount of water it loses through leaks and illegal connections. The MWSS, which services 65% of the water needs of the city, loses 54% of its production on leaks and illegal connection.
