Barilla is the number one player in the sweet biscuits sector, accounting for 46% of volume sales for that sector in 1997. Barilla, together with Colussi and Doria, saw their respective volume shares rise by one percentage point between 1996 and 1997. Barilla's success in the sweet biscuits sector is due largely to the popularity of its Mulino Bianco and Pavesi breakfast biscuits, which offer a wide range of product to cater to different tastes. Colussi, which took a 4% volume share, realized boost in its sweet biscuits business from its purchase of Misura biscuits brand.
