Urban dreamers
Article Abstract:
Thailand's city voters primarily seek candidates with leadership skills and the savvy to develop the country's economy, in contrast to the rural electorate and its cash- and patronage-based voting. However, not all the voters in Bangkok and the other major cities agree on just what they want, and personality still plays a major and perhaps divisive role in the country's developing political consciousness. The rural-based parties would prefer fewer but stronger parties across the political landscape.
