Method for evaluating the strength of retarding steps on marshalling yard hump

Article Abstract:

A novel technique for determining the strength of retarding steps on a marshalling yard hump is presented. The method is based on the three sigma rule for estimating magnitude lost energy height. It is shown that the humping process is highly complex because of several factors, most of which are either variable, independent of the operators' will or are highly random in nature.

The study presents the moments method to estimate the duration times of stochastic activity networks (SANs) based on the Weibull distribution of activity time. This method offers a more accurate estimate of the project completion time as compared with the estimates of other distribution functions.

Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is used to calculate the frontier production function and evaluate the performance of golfers on three professional golf tours in the United States. The method of study and the possible application of the results to non-golf situations are discussed.
