Michael Milken, comeback king

Article Abstract:

Michael Milken has served two years in jail on securities offenses, and has returned to run an expanding business empire, as well as carrying out charity work. Milken worked for Drexel Burnham Lambert, and was blamed for the collapse of that company. He has been banned from returning to work in the securities industry, and his new business activities include vocational training. His involvement in junk bonds is seen more favorably in 1999, and high-yield bonds are seen as beneficial in allowing companies with good ideas to gain access to capital.

Article Abstract:

The Finnish economy has expanded by an average of around 5% a year since 1994. Nokia, the country's largest high-tech concern, has become one of the most successful companies in the world, and Finland has become the only Nordic country to join the single European currency. Unemployment is still high, accounting for around 10% of the labour force, but the government seems to be willing to take firm action to address this problem. Finland has also benefited greatly from economic diversification.
