Milestones in the management game over four decades
Article Abstract:
In a board game format, more than 50 milestones of management theory are identified in chronological order. The game begins in 1946, with the origination of the word 'automation' by Del S. Harder of Ford Motor Co., and continues on to the publishing of 'In Search of Excellence' by Peters and Waterman in 1983. Other milestones include: the 1955 development of the first data processing center by Texas Instruments, the 1957 Treaty of Rome (which created the European Economic Community), the beginning of the second generation of computers in 1959 (when IBM introduced its 1401 processors), the debut of quality circles in Japan in the 1960s, the introduction of flexitime in 1967, Nixon's termination of the modified gold standard in 1971, management by walking around developed by Hewlett-Packard in the late 1970s, and the coining of the word 'intrapreneur' by Norman McCrae in 1982.

For Olympic sponsors, the game's global
Article Abstract:
To avoid Olympic product endorsement conflicts, a new marketing program has been developed for the 1988 Olympics (in Calgary and Seoul) and future games. The International Olympic Committee has appointed ISL of Switzerland sole marketing agent. The world's premiere sporting event will seek to avoid conflicting sponsorship that results in a dilution of advertising impact by: eliminating bargains sponsorship rates, using global categories as guidelines, and forcing would-be sponsors to evaluate what the Olympic symbols are worth. In 1984, Campbell Soup Company paid $500,000 to be the official soup of the Winter Olympics, a similar right in 1988 would cost the company $7.2 million.
