Is there money in misfortune?
Article Abstract:
There has been relatively little activity in the market for default swaps, the most popular type of credit derivative, until recently. However, this market began to expand rapidly in 1997, when some $170 billion-worth of default swaps, which provide insurance to lenders that they will receive their money back if a borrower goes bankrupt, were written. The growing popularity of default swaps is attributable to the fact that credit spreads in emerging markets have been rising and becoming more volatile, with default swaps being a good way of betting on credit risk.

Your money or your time
Article Abstract:
Many companies have been slow to recognize that women have gained significant economic power as more and more have entered the labour market. However, there is now growing recognition of the influence of women as consumers. Working women are often under considerable time pressures, and this means that they are purchasing more goods and services designed to make life easier, such as childcare, cleaning and catering. There is considerable business potential associated with providing such goods and services.
