Minister 'amazed' at Viarsa verdict
Article Abstract:
An Australian court has acquitted the captain and crew of Viarsa 1, a Uruguayan registered longliner, who were charged of illegal fishing in Australian waters. The damages awarded in the case are also mentioned. Australia's federal fisheries minister, Ian Macdonald, however, finds the verdict a bit difficult to swallow.

Pirate toothfish liner scuttled
Article Abstract:
Elqui, a Guinea based ship has found to be illegally fishing in South Georgia waters and was taken to Falkland islands for prosecution. Geneagles Corporation, the owner of the vessel and the captain of the ship were convicted for fishing without a licence.

Pacific Andes in Toothfish storm
Article Abstract:
Pacific Andes is being investigated by Australian authorites as part of an organized illegal fishing ring taking toothfish. Two fishing boats connected to Pacific Andes have been seized but Pacific Andes denies the allegations.
