Mitsubishi pick of Pratt jet engine could set trend
Article Abstract:
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. has chosen Pratt and Whitney to supply the engines for its regional jets. The jets will be the first domestically built aircraft in Japan in 40 years. Mitsubishi chose Pratt and Whitney due to new technology the jet engine firm has developed, the geared turbofan engine, which consists of a gearbox behind the primary fan blade that allows engine parts and the fan to rotate at different speeds, reducing noise and fuel consumption.
