Money-go-round: financial regulation
Article Abstract:
The Securities and Investments Board (SIB) has been formed to regulate the Bank of England and five other large financial organizations. SIB intends to replace the seven existing financial regulators with a new structure intended to improve efficiency and cut duplication of services. In addition, SIB hopes to offer the public a telephone help line where people can report problems about any type of financial transaction, including car insurance and pensions. The reorganization of the financial regulator cannot take place until a new Financial Services Act is passed, which will probably occur in 1999.
